MEMORY
Dunn House is situated on a completely flat site, where a slab rises slightly.
The house's structure rises from this slab and supports a roof of sloping planes. The project transforms the typical morphology of pitched roofs to create a new architectural language, with prominent overhangs, marked slopes, and intermediate extractions.
The structure is characterized by a large roof of sloping planes in different directions, based on the concept of origami, which creates a recognizable symbol across the landscape, blurring the flatness of the terrain.
The roof, with its ever-changing folds, concentrates three converging slopes into large water collection channels, ensuring effective rainwater drainage and facilitating roof maintenance. For the roof construction, a metal structure was chosen, with profiles capable of supporting cantilevered sections of considerable length without sacrificing lightness and slenderness.
The roof overhangs are generous in all directions, and the metal stud roofing profiles follow the transverse slopes of each fold. The stud profile is light-colored to reflect the sun's heat,
and forms a sandwich with 5cm of high-density fiberglass insulation, OSB panel, an air gap, and a suspended ceiling finish, thus ensuring effective heat and noise reduction inside.
The roof is punctuated by strategically placed openings to fill the interior with natural light and promote effective cross-ventilation, while also breaking the feeling of being confined and helping to expand the connection between indoors and outdoors.
A general principle and core concept in all our projects is to achieve expansive views in all
angles, projecting the interior outwards and vice versa, without neglecting protection from the elements and the privacy of home life. Not only does it generate a feeling and quality of home life, but it also allows a wide and diverse flow of natural light through the open and permeable planes in all spaces, while from the outside, we mysteriously perceive a protected life, promoting tranquility, containment, and family togetherness.
The dynamism achieved through the permeability of the facade and the unique image of the roof is accentuated by the strong presence of the wooden slat pattern, emphasizing its design and highlighting the project amidst a clear and open environment.
More than a house with classic and proper functionality, the project aims to be a response to a space capable of promoting an undefined and diffuse interrelationship between inside and outside. In this way, it encourages a lifestyle that, although located 10 minutes from the city center, feels like being lost in a free and natural space, far removed from chaos. Its timeless aesthetic ensures sustainability, transcending trends and guaranteeing a positive and powerful image throughout its lifespan. The tension lines created by the roof and the horizontality of the base establish a new, prominent presence in the surrounding environment.
